Bile Duct

Carries Bile (fluid secreted from liver) from Gallbladder to duodenum (upper small intestine)

Esophagus

Muscular tube connects throat to stomach. It carries food/liquids from mouth to stomach.

Stomach

Pouch-like organ that mixes food w gastric juice, initiates protein digestion, and propels good into small intestine. It contains gastric glands which contains cells that secrete pepsin and alkaline mucus.

Small Intestine

Organ that contains three sections, Duodenum, jejunum and ileum. Main function is the absorption of nutrients and minerals from food.

Mesentary

Double-layered membrane which suspends the small intestine and supports blood vessels, and nerves.

Large intestine

Gets rid of food that has already been absorbed of its nutrients, bacteria and other wastes through the rectum.

Cecum

Pouchlike structure which hangs below ileocecal sphincter. Dead end for more storage

Rectum

Temporary storage of feces before being removed by the anus.

Pyloric Sphincter

Valve that controls flow of partially digested food from the stomach to the small intestine
