Concious processing of info. Capacity is limited. Brief storage (about 30 seconds). Like how long you remember a phone number you need to dial. |

Maintanence rehearsal |
Mental/verbal repetition of info allows info to remain in working memory longer than usual 30 seconds. |

Chunking |
Grouping small bits of info into larger units of info. It's why we group phone numbers that way. |

Long term memory |
Organizes and stores info Unlimited capacity Duration thought by some to be permanent. |

Automatic processing |
Unconscious encoding of info. You dont think about it as its happening. |

Effortful encoding |
Requires attention and concious effort. Memorizing notes. Memorizing phone number until you can mark it down. |

Explicit/Declaritive memory |
Memory with awareness. Info that can be consciously recollected. Can use to respond to question. Two types: episodic and semantic. |

Implicit/nondeclarative memory |
Memory without awareness. Affects out behavior but cant conciously be recalled. |

Episodic memory |
Info about events or "episodes". Tied to personal experience. |

Semantic memory |
Info about facts, general knowledge, school work. Not tied to personal events. General. how many tires in car. What color is a banana. |

Procedural memory |
Enables you to perform specific learned skills or habitual responses. Like riding a bike or trying shoe laces. Dont have to consciously remember steps to perform them. |

Clustering |
Organizing items into related groups during recall from long term memory |

Semantic network model |
Mental links between concepts. Shorter path between concepts. Like thinking of apples helps you remember other fruits ect. |
