describe latent diseases |
are those in which a pathogen remains inactive for a long period of time before becoming active. i.e. herpes |

what is a communicable disease? |
when an infectious disease comes from another infected host either directly or indirectly. influenza, herpes, and tuberculosis |

what is a contagious disease? |
communicable disease that is easily transmitted between hosts. i.e. chicken pox and measles |

what is a noncommunicable disease |
these are not spread between hosts and diseased patients are not a source of contamination. i.e. acne, tetanus. |

is the study of where and when diseases occur and how they are transmitted within populations. |

the number of "new" cases of a disease |

what is prevalence? |
is the total number of cases, both new and already existing. it's a cumulative number. |

a disease that normally occurs in a certain region/population |

when a disease occurs at a greater frequency than normal for a region/population but stays relatively isolated |

an outbreak of disease that occurs simultaneously on multiple continents. |
