Paranoid schizophrenia, also called schizophrenia, paranoid type, is a sub-type of schizophrenia. This is the most common type of schizophrenia. Schizophrenia is defined as “a chronic mental disorder in which a person loses touch with reality (psychosis)." His schizophrenia is accompanied by delusional episodes. He graduated from Princeton, had a successful career that included being awarded the Nobel Prize, and had a wife and child. Based on what Nash said and did in the film, his schizophrenia was mainly paranoid because he was “seeing a person who is constantly telling him bad things to do.” He went back and forth on “believing the guy is real.” He knows he is “schizo” but he thinks that he can fix it just like he fixes a math problem because of his extraordinary success in math. He even mentions that an imaginary character was put in his brain. One of the first imaginary characters that he develops in his mind is Charles Herman, who he thinks is his roommate.
