These two states had never gotten along always resulting in conflicts. Years later an emerging powerful group from central Asia, known as the Seljuk Turks, began to reign over the Middle East claiming lands for their own. The Byzantine empire, once known as the most powerful Christian empire in the Middle East, had fallen to the command of the Seljuk Turks in 1071 during the battle of Manzikurt. As the European nations sought to decrease the power of the Ottoman Empire, they introduced nationalism to the Arabs. The British seduced local Arab leaders to leave the Ottoman Empire and create their own state and Caliphate. The Arabs joined the fight wishing to gain their independence from the Ottomans. They wanted their own identity and a unified Arab region but what happened was the Arabs were separated into mandates governed by the French and British. The promises for Sheriff Hussein were not honored as the Europeans divided the Arabs for their oil.…
Jonathan Phillips has written an outstanding book that encompasses 200 hundred years of holy wars between medieval Christendom and Islam. Included within Phillips 434 paged book are black and white illustrations, notes, primary and secondary bibliographies, and an index. The reader will find an eloquently written book. The author begins his story with Pope Urban II speech at the council at Clermont in 1095. Author states, Urban II called for the recovery of Jerusalem from Islam and the need to aid King Alexious I of Byzantine in order to halt the rise of Islam in the Near East.…
Over the years in Earth’s history, dominating countries have used their power and strength to take over lesser countries with ease. The strong central governments, militaries and navies, politics, knowledge and other factors allowed these dominating countries to turn into empires. Through the 7th and 11th centuries, Islam grew rapidly and so did the rules that came for the people living in the areas the Arabs conquered. Jews, Christians and even some Muslims, such as the Zanj people were just some of the examples in the documents that are conquered by the Arabians. The documents are all connected in a similar way relating to Islam and the expansion of the religion through the 7th and 11th centuries.
