During our many outings’ around Charlotte I have learned a lot about Charlotte and what it has to offer. Going to the Mint Museum by far has been my favorite outing because I have never been to an art museum before and it was very interesting to learn about the artist featured there and their artwork. One painting stood out the most to me during our time at the Mint Museum. I believe this painting depicts my journey through life and how my mom has been the backbone for my family and me. It depicts the strength women can have in order to provide a better future for their children. During our trip to the Mint Museum, there was a lot of compelling artwork that stood out, but there was one piece of artwork that caught my attention and spoke to me. The Upper Room by John Biggers. The artwork depicts two Southern women carrying on their wrapped heads a building, which looks like a house, school, and church alongside the women, are young boy and girl climbing a vine toward their future. A painting-representing mother wanting a better future for their children and having faith. This painting stood out to me because my mother is the backbone to my future. She made it possible for me because she kept a roof over my siblings and I head, she made sure we were doing well in school and got good grades, and her faith in my dreams and me keeps me going. My mother represents the two Southern women in the painting carrying the building because her strength and faith keeps our…
On my sixteenth birthday, I realized how fleeting all of the things I thought were permanent could be. I had no doubt in my mind that I was going to be living in Valdosta, Georgia up until college, which was neither good nor bad. I didn’t want to stay in Valdosta until leaving became a real possibility. Early in the first semester of my sophomore year of high school my mom broke the news to me. My mom came and sat on my bed with me after I got home from school. I remember how surprised I was to…
I hope all is well with you Emily. I talked with you over the last couple of month. I was having a hard time with the College of Western Idaho meeting my Reasonable Accommodations. I eventually got that worked out but it did not make me feel good going there anymore so I decided to transfer to a bigger school Boise State University because I thought that they would have more resources to accommodate me; I was wrong. Speaking to you put my heart at ease on the legal definitions and I could tell…

For project 2, the plan was to attend a seminar of some sort regarding estate planning. Chris Hogan, one of Dave Ramsey’s personalities, was here towards the end of March but his speaking arrangement wasn’t centered solely around estate planning and instead, was more of a “smart money” event about getting out of debt etc. After doing some research, I found several different seminars that will be taking place locally next month around the Salt Lake Valley, but since the semester will be over by…
Introduction Ever since a child, I have been overwhelmed by the vast number of career options I could choose from, and have never been entirely sure what I wanted to become. I’ve always been curious; I like knowing how things work and why they work. I’d tinker with a computer or take toys apart to fix them or simply for fun. As time and I grew on, things haven’t changed very much. I still love figuring out how things work, and learning about technology. Once in middle school, I dreamed of…
American womanhood, fans only accepting athletes who meet the “white beauty queen” standard and athletic competition being seen as being a men’s activity. Before looking at why there is a contrast between the growth in the participation of women in athletics and the difference in popularity between women’s and men’s sports, it is useful to look at the contrast itself. The growth in women’s…
on reinforcing their tribe. The nature allowed them to be more mobile, “The mountain homelands of the Tonto, White Mountain and San Carlos Apaches range from desert ridges to forest-covered peaks.” From February to June, after the harvesting season, men of the tribe used to go hunting and raiding to others land. In the meantime, women used to look after the children and the properties. During the Summer and Autumn, they usually, harvest the plants and take care of the livestock. Even though…
reflected a Colonial style. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Spanish influence became noticeable in buildings. Designers in America with a Spanish heritage began to follow a specific vision - one that reflected their culture well. This created several different visions for architecture in America that began to produce different distinct designs based on the past from each Spanish region. Emphasized by simplicity, houses went from intricate, symmetrical, and square houses, to ones with…
Seven Cities of Gold Expedition A land of riches and gold sounds like a land any person would want to live in. In the southwestern part of the United States and northern Mexico, there were lands filled to the brim with gold and other riches. In 1539, one of the first expeditions to find these cities was led by Francisco Vasquez de Coronado who took on the long, difficult journey which was also known as Seven Cities of Gold Expedition. While exploring the Southwest United States and Northern…
