    Many people have an athlete that they look up to and that is their role model. Many of these people are children and teens so because of this people think that it is the sports teams responsibility to hold players to a higher standard for their personal conduct. It is the sports teams responsibility because of the power athletes can have in a society and the image of the team and the game they can create. Players should be held to a higher standard because since they are celebrities they have the power to spread messages to their fans and society. In a website article called, “Are Athletes Good Role Models?” from Psychology Today by Frank L Smoll Ph.D, it says that “Athletes have an incredible opportunity to use their celebrity power to influence the next generation.” Since many kids look up to athletes and they have the power to spread both positive and negative messages it is important to keep them both morally and ethically right because they have a hand in influencing the next generation. In the website article from the Washington Post called “Personal conduct policy unfairly demonizes cast majority of NFL players who don’t hit” by Sally Jenkins says that people in today’s society are hero worshipping athletes. When people are idolized and looked up to, they are emulated by others and can impact a person’s values.
