Introduction Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a common condition in cats, known to affect 1 in 3 cats during their lifetime, and resulting in the persistent loss of kidney function over time. The disease is silent in its early stages, incurable, and ultimately results in death. An excessive level of phosphorus in commercial cat food is likely contributing to the prevalence and severity of CKD in cats.
