Name the position: Leaning forward while supported by arms, chin thrust out, mouth open.

Is Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) contagious, and how is it spread?
|
It is contagious. Child should be placed on isolation precautions, in their own room or with another RSV child. Virus spread with hand contact (Not airborne).

What medication is used to treat RSV, and how should it be administred?
|
Ribavirin (Virazole), administered by hood, face mask or oxygen tent.

Why is decreased wheezing in a child during an asthma episode a bad sign?
|
Typically shows an inability to move air. A "silent chest" is an ominous sign. Increased wheezing post tx, is a positive sign.

To decrease the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), we tell parents to put baby's on their back in the crib. Why?

The ability of the baby to move it's head from side-to-side decreases the risk for suffocation; breathing is enhanced if pressure is taken off the lungs.

No. Further, additional vaccines are recommended such as a yearly pneumococcal and flu.
