|
Pelvic girdle=force transmission/generation/stability
Illium=elephant ears Pubis=anterior inferior portion Ischium=posterior inferior portion
Pubic symphysis=where the three bones come together (fibrocartilage)
Sacrum=triangular bone (posterior)-part of right and left sacro-iliac joints (posterior)
Pay attention to pubic tubercle, anterior superior iliac spine (ASIS), anterior inferior iliac spine (AIIS), posterior superior iliac spine (PSIS), posterior inferior illiac spine (PIIS) |
|
|
Sacrotuberous ligament=from ischial tuberosity to sacrum
Sacrospinous ligament=from ischial spine to sacrum
Function of ligaments-resist rotation of sacrum relative to pelvis
Greater sciatic foramen=exit points for nerves and vessels |
|
|
Hip Joint-synovial, ball (femoral head) & socket (acetabulum) joint
Fibrous capsule surrounding synovial membrane
Function: Flexion, extension, abduction, adduction, lateral rotation, medial rotation, circumduction (multiplanar) |
|
|
Capsular ligaments-surround fibrous capsule
Iliofemoral ligament=from ileum to femur, reinforces atnerior superior joint, prevents hyper extension of hip
Pubofemoral ligament=pubis to femur, reinforces anterior inferior joint, prevents hyperabduction
Ischiofemoral ligament=ischium to femur, reinforces posterior joint, prevents hyperflexion (weakest) |
|
|
Acetabulum-socket of hip joint-made up of ileum, ischium, and pubis
Acetabular laburm-rim that goes around acetabulum (fibrocartilage)-deepens socket
Acetabular notch-most inferior, neurovascular supply to the hip
Take note of femoral head, neck, greater trochanter, and lesser trochanter |
|
|
Obturator artery=artery to the head of the femur
Retinacular artery=from circumflex femoral artery (mostly medial) |
|
|
Inguinal ligament=runs from ASIS to pubic tubercle; keeps intestines separate from limb
Transverse acetabular ligament=helps connect acetabular notch
Ligament of the head of the femur/ligamentum teres=runs from acetabulum to fovea capita on femur
Greater trochanteric bursa=lubrication to decrease friction; between gluteus maximus and greater trochanter
Ischial bursa=superficial to ischial tuberosity |
|
|
Gluteus maximus:
Attachments: posterior ilium/sacrum, sacrotuberous ligament to iliotibial tract and gluteal tuberosity (lateral aspect of linea aspera)
Function: thigh extension and lateral rotation
Arterial supply: superior and inferior gluteal nerves
Innervation: inferior gluteal nerve (L5-S2) |
|
|
Gluteus Medius & Minimus
Attachments: external surface of ilium to greater trochanter
Function: Hip abduction and medial rotation
Arterial supply: superior gluteal artery
Innervation: superior gluteal nerve (L4-S1) |
|
|
Piriformis-deep gluteal muscle
Attachments: anterior sacrum to greater trochanter (through sciatic foramen)
Function: hip lateral rotation and abduction
Arterial supply: superior and inferior gluteal arteries
Innervation: nerve to the piriformis (L5-S2) |
|
|
Gemellus Superior Attachments: ischial spine to trochanteric fossa
Arterial supply: inferior gluteal artery
Innervation: nerve to the obturator internus (L5-S2)
Gemellus Inferior Attachments: ischial tuberosity trochanteric fossa
Arterial supply: Inferior gluteal artery
Innervation: Nerve to the quadratus femoris (L4-S1)
Obturator Internus Attachments: obturator membrane to greater trochanter
Arterial supply: inferior gluteal artery
Innervation: Nerve to the obturator internus (L5-S2)
Quadratus femoris Attachments: Ischial tuberosity to intertrochanteric crest
Arterial supply: inferior gluteal artery
Innervation: Nerve to the quadratus femoris (L4-S1)
Function: laterally rotate hip
|
|
|
Posterior thigh |
|
|
Biceps Femoris-posterior thigh-hamstrings muscle
Long Head Attachments: Ischial tuberosity to head of fibula (crosses hip and knee)
Innervation: Tibial division of sciatic nerve (L4-S3)
Short Head Attachments: linea aspera to head of fibula (crosses knee)
Innervation: common fibular division of sciatic nerve (L4-S3)
Arterial supply: inferior gluteal artery, popliteal artery
Function: extend hip, flex knee, laterally rotate knee
|
|
|
Semitendinosus Attachments: Ischial tuberosity to tibia
Arterial supply: inferior gluteal artery
Semimembranosus Attachments: Ischial tuberosity to tibia
Arterial supply: Profunda femoris, superior and inferior gluteal arteries
Function: Extend hip, flex knee, medially rotate tibia
Innervation: tibial division of sciatic nerve (L4-S3) |
