1. What is well-being?
A greater amount of positive affect then negative effect, along with favorable thoughts such as satisfaction with life

Subjective states that have a cognitive basis and can enhance or interfere with positive behavior

4. What are emotions?
States elicited following an appraisal wherein an object, person, or event is determined to impact or have the potential to impact the goals or the well-being of the individual
5. How are moods different from emotions?
•Longer lasting
•Have unidentifiable antecedents
•Not as intense
6. What is the influence of exercise on moods?
•Exercise positively influences vigor and holds a negative association to tension, anger, confusion and fatigue
•Energizing effects of exercise are shown for light and moderate exercise but not for high-intensity or exhaustive exercise
7. What is the influence of overtraining on moods?
Can lead to “staleness syndrome” – increased negative mental health and poor performance; Can also lead to Exercise Dependence
8. What is Exercise Dependence?
A craving for leisure-time physical activity, resulting in uncontrollable excessive exercise behavior that manifests in physiological – tolerance/withdrawal – and or psychological – anxiety/depression – symptoms
9. Explanations for exercise dependence.
1. Endorphin Hypothesis – body becomes addicted to positive feelings associated with release of endorphins
2. Psychophysiological Hypothesis –
•Effect of training is a decrease in sympathetic nervous system output
•Increase in fitness can potentially result in state of fatigue and decreased arousal
•This motivates the individual to increase training dose to satisfy the need
•Cyclical
