winds from the seas blow to the mountains- the cool moisture from the air releases rain which gives countries near the mountains (like bhutan) very heavy rainfall
rain shadow
some mountains make a rain shadow which results in one side of the mountain getting more rain than the other side (deccan plateau is drier than the coastel plains)

most of S. Asia is tropical but depending on where the area is on the monsoon cycle the climates could be very different-- N.Mountains and slopes of the western Ghats are cold whereas the rest of the subcontinent is tropical- thar desert is hot
