What makes the fire triangle |
Oxygen Fuel Heat |
|
What is the objective of firefighting |
To eliminate one of the elements in the fire triangle. |
|
What can impact the intensity of smoke in the cabin? |
Rate of smoke production And Available ventilation |
|
What can cabin crew do for fire prevention? |
- eliminate potential hazards - detect source of smoke / fire early - check for paper/debris in bins - pick up excessive paper on galley/lav floors/floor vents - check for foreign objects in coffee maker (ie. Plastic, metal, etc.) - clean up liquid spills on coffee warmer pad - shut off electrical supply to malfunctioning equipment - ensure lavs tidy and smoke detectors unobstructed - if lav has smoke detector sound, investigate asap, take action as needed (ie. Appropriate fire fighting procedures) - no liquids behind lav mirrors - waste bin flaps closed but still accessible in order for better fire detection/firefighting if needed - enforcing no smoking - check correct use of seat power supply/charging |
|
What are different ways to detect fire ? |
- fire not always obvious - smoke and flames more always visible as open flame Signs: - fumes / unusual odors - electrical malfunction (ie. Circuit Breakers tripping) - noises (popping / snapping / crackling which may indicate electrical arcing) - hot spots should be investigated (ie. In sidewalls, floors, panels) - PAX or FAs suddenly developing eye irritations, sore throats, headaches) - can indicate presence of gas fumes not yet reaching level where they are visible) |
|
What is flash point? What is flash over? |
Flash Point: Lowest temperature that a combustible gives off vapors that will ignite when a source of ignition or fire is applied to the vapours
Flash Over: - Occurs when flash point is reached - Occurs when combustible gases become heated to the temperature where flames flash over the entire area - this is why speed is imperative in an evacuation when fire is present |
|
What is a flash fire? |
- sudden, intense fire caused by ignition of a mixture of air and a ... ...dispersed flammable substance such as a solid (including dust) ...flammable or combustible liquids (ie. Aerosol or fine mist) ...flammable gas Characterized by... ...high temperature ...short duration ...rapidly moving flame front |
|
What are the different classifications of fire? |
A - air - combustible materials Ie. Wood, paper, fabric, garbage - items that turn to ash Smoke color: starts as white/gray and turns to dark brown B - booze - flammable liquids Ie. Alcohol, gasoline, paint, grease Smoke: starts as white/gray and turns to black
C - circuit - electrical Ie. Electrical wiring, currents, circuits
D - death - metals Ie. Aluminum, sodium, potassium, magnesium |
|
Can a single fire event result in a fire with having more than one classification? |
Yes |
