Discuss the various causes of a person's doubting his salvation; give the tests of God's Word.
|
Childlike faith brings many to salvation between the ages of four and seven. Most children don't really remember things before the age of five.
Teenagers who got saved at an early age often doubt being saved more when the preacher says if you can't remember the exact time and place of your salvation you are not saved. Shocking conversions are where a prominent Christian announces they just got saved yesterday, and then others around them think if they weren't saved then maybe I am not saved. One proof of salvation is the desire to be obedient to God. When you get saved the Holy Spirit resides in your heart and you can no longer enjoy a life full of sin. When you experience inner conflict about your salvation it is a confirmation of salvation in your life. A conflict requires two sides, an unsaved person only has one nature and a saved person has two natures. Also, when you can understand God's Word it is because you have the Holy Spirit to help teach and guide you. An unsaved person does not understand God's. (see section 6.5, text page 195-196) |
