Response: I would first thank the parent for coming and tell them how important it is that we keep open lines of communication between the parents and teachers. I will go over the following agenda for the meeting and then ask the parents if they have anything they wanted to add.
After going through the agenda with the parents we will go through their student’s strengths that can be backed up with evidence such as reports from teachers and samples of their students’ work. It is important that we bring positives things to the meeting and not just harp on the negative behaviors or the things that need to be corrected. I will bring out the tally chart and data documentation that can back up what is being pointed out. If you as the teacher can show documentation with dates, frequency and notes, then there is nothing the parents can say. It is important to ask the parent if they witness the same behavior and needs at home. Then the key is to sit down together to get on the same page as to how we can work together to see change. The teacher-parent relationship should be a partnership.
