Workforce Strengths

Workforce assessment is the process of determining the competencies, skills, and knowledge; categories and number of personnel; and training needed to achieve public health and personal health goals. It is a community process that includes the identification of those available to contribute to the provision of the Essential Public Health Services and the particular strengths and assets that each brings. Workforce assessment includes the projection of optimal numbers and types of personnel and the formulation of plans to address identified workforce shortfalls or gaps. Within the past three years, an assessment of the CPHS workforce is conducted. Gaps related to workforce composition, size, skills and/or experience, and recruitment and retention shortfalls are identified. This knowledge is used to develop plans to address workforce gaps and plans are implemented for correction. A formal process to evaluate the effectiveness of plans to address workforce gaps is in place. Results of the workforce assessment is disseminated to community leaders, governing bodies, and public agencies for use in CPHS organizations’ strategic/operational …show more content…
Leadership skill development is also promoted by mentoring personnel in middle management/supervisory positions and establishing financial resources to support leadership development on an ongoing basis. Collaborative leadership is promoted through the creation of a shared vision and participatory decision-making. CPHS provide leadership opportunities for individuals and/or organizations in areas where their expertise or experience can provide insight, direction, or resources.
