CHES Competency 1: A Case Study

CHES Competency 1 is the planning assessment process of a health education program and how to identify the needs of the population that is targeted. In order to determine if a community needs a program during the planning process the public health professional and stakeholders has to assess the needs of the target population (1.1.2). This competency (1.1.1.) is the start of understanding the population because every community has its own values, beliefs, and culture. There are ways to assess the priority population such as using precede/proceed model, health belief model, and other theories to help predict if the plan will be successful (1.1.3). Moreover, there are also several ways to data collect and examine the information about the community that will have to establish during the planning process (1.1.4). It is important to engage our stakeholders to be a part of the assessment because community leaders are the potential voices of the program, the community members knows most about their own community, and monetary investors could assist in offering better services (1.1.5). Researching previous research methods and instruments will also be an essential part of the planning process because this will let the public health professional know if those strategies worked previously. …show more content…
Secondary sources is data that has already been created previously and will decrease the time spent collecting data using other methods like windshield tours, interviews, or surveys. The sources should be critiqued in order to evaluate if it is evidence based and reliable. After collecting secondary data, the public health professional will identify any gaps with using any models or theories. It also highlights how imperative is to form rapport to your stakeholder in order to receive more data and to research information using reputable
