Why We Should Pitbulls Be Banned

The ban of pitbulls clearly has two defined sides; to be banned or not. People promoting the ban of pit bulls often rely on statistics or ideas created by others to conceive their opinion. In contrast, there is actually a lot of falsity to these ideas, and make pit bulls seem a lot worse and more dangerous. There are many myths about pit bulls or preconceived ideas, this is an essay that undermines those and details the truth about pit bulls and why they should not be banned. To begin, years ago during philosophical research including scientists such as, Thomas Hobbes and Aristotle, there was experiments conducted to see if criminal behaviour could be hereditary. Although, this is different in the sense of criminality, the experiment was conducted to see if overly aggressive or violent genes could be passed down through generations; which was proven incapable. However, the genes are different than humans, they still share the same fundamental bases and it has been proven dogs can not inherit those genes as well. The point of this study relates to pitbulls being allowed because if dogs can not inherit these aggressive behaviours through genes, the dogs who are stimulating overly aggressive behaviour are conditioned that way by either the owner, the environment around them or the by the breeder. For example, the breeders who raise their dogs in extreme conditions, under tight expectation for the purpose of being a guard or attack dog have a way different mindset and behaviour than a family oriented dog. Dogs react to the situations they are placed in, and the natural instinct of protection regardless of the type of dog will always be something humans can’t stop. Secondly, the banning of pit bulls does not decrease the amount of dog bites or attacks. Often, people think that because pit bulls can be vicious dogs, if we ban them the attacks and bites will stop, which is false.Banning one type of dog will not stop all bites and attacks because any dog is capable of biting and being vicious. It is what sets them off, and causes them to enter that state of mind. In relation, one serial killer being caught and put into jail will not stop, or deter others from killing. It is the environment around us and how we rehabilitate which changes behavioural problems. This is infact a myth with little to no truth behind it for multiple reasons. One of these reasons being, pit bulls are on the list of most loyal family dogs. What parents need to understand is that pit bulls get excited easily and children- unless they’re taught do not know how to properly interact with dogs. Pit bulls attack or react in spite of reaction to something that might seem testing to the dog, or scare them. Children can do these things without even meaning to and regardless of the type of dog all children need to properly be taught how to interact with dogs.Alternatively, dogs teach responsibility, loyalty and companionship which are all things that pit bull excel in.
