Many police departments use drones in police chases because they are cheaper to operate than a helicopter and can map areas not accessible by car. Additionally, drones offer a quick availability of data in real time and have high resolution imaging which allows them to support law enforcement. The government also uses drones to monitor wildfires because drones can fly at a variety of altitudes depending on the amount of data needed. However, due to the already large amount of firefighting aircraft used in wildfires, the fire department chooses not to use drones as frequently. In addition, the police force uses drones to monitor boarders for drug trafficking and illegal activity. The Predator is a special breed of drone that the government uses for various reason ranging from dropping bombs to monitoring floodwater and is often used to find signs of illegal border crossings (Singer , "The Predator Comes Home: A Primer on Domestic Drones, their Huge Business Opportunities, and their Deep Political, Moral, and Legal Challenges"). In theory, this would be possible if every drone in the US had cameras and was in the air constantly, but there are many uses for drones besides surveillance and military use. Additionally, many states have already banned the use of drones for surveillance and have enforced law to protect the privacy of citizens. In Mississippi, the SB 2022 specifies that using a drone to commit any “peeping tom” activities as a felony and in Tennessee the HB 296 prohibits drones from capturing pictures or videos over certain open-air events and firework displays (Hill, "Drones: The Latest Threat to the Right to Privacy » The National Judicial College"). Just like guns, drones are as good as the people who use them. There needs to be some kind of regulation to protect the citizens but the government should not ban them all together because of a few wrong incidences. Drones have so much potential to help the US do better as a country and should not have stricter regulations because they improve the economy, the police use drones for public safety, and scientist use them for environmental research. If the government enforced stricter laws, we might see less progression in technology, which would be a setback for all humanity. To reach a compromise, perhaps it would be beneficial if those who choose to use drones had to have
