Did you know billions of U.S dollars go towards stopping people from smoking marijuana? Yes billions of U.S dollars go towards this yearly. This is wasting our country's money by trying to stop something that is going to be legal in many states around the United States of America. There are also many illnesses and diseases that can be helped or cured just by smoking or ingesting marijuana. Imagine if you had an illness such as HIV or glaucoma which are two illnesses that can be cured or helped by smoking marijuana, but it was illegal. What would you do? This is the same issue that many people have been facing for many years in United States. Another reason why marijuana should be legal is according to Owen Poindexter it will save us money. “One of the strongest aspects of the way on drugs is how completely it has failed at reducing drug use, despite costing over 51 billion dollars annually, according to the Drug Policy Alliance.” By legalizing marijuana it will make it cheaper for us to stop drug activity. So once again why wouldn’t we do this? 51 billion dollars is a huge amount of money.
The third reason why marijuana should be legal is it is less toxic and more useful and cheaper than the conventional medicines prescribed for diverse syndromes and symptoms....” (Grinspoon). This is proving that marijuana is way safer less toxic and more useful and less expensive. If its that much better why don’t we just start using it
