p. 197 “He berates Lourdes for leaving him with a father she knew was irresponsible.”
1 Enrique should not reproach Lourdes for leaving him with his father; she did what she thought was the best for him. He should talk with his father about it. He should talk with his father and clarify all your doubts.
It might have been different; however, he 'll never know. Most of the parents don 't know how to be parents, but some of them when to receiving a responsibility of an infant try to be the best that they can. Unfortunately, Enrique has an irresponsible man as the father.
p. 197 “Why did she send Belky so much money, to cover tuition at a private school her aunt sent her to?”
2 treated him differently from his sister. It could be part of his imagination. However, the most reasonable conclusion is that Lourdes as other parents felt that girl had needed more help. Plus, she assumed that Enrique 's father could support more the only boy in the family. p. 198 “Enrique tells Lourdes her bigger mistake was getting pregnant a year after arriving in the United States.” 3 He should wait to talk with her and try to understand the motives that Lourdes had to do what she did. Lourdes is a human and can make mistakes like everyone. She was desperate, heartbroken, and disappointed. Then, she thought that she had found happiness in the United States, but she was wrong again. To learn some people have to make mistakes; experiences are important to mature. p. 198 “I wouldn 't be this way if I had had two parents.” 4 That is just an excuse. Enrique tries to blame others for his errors. On the contrary, he has to change without the help of others. So far he has shown us to be a capable man, and he does not need other to success. I do not understand him; why he wants to make his mother feel bad, and it is not fair. p. 198 “A true mother, he tells Lourdes, isn 't the person who carries you in her womb.” 5 He has to consider that Lourdes does not abandon him because she did not love him. It was for necessity. She wanted the best for her children; she could not please them with her decision. However, we have some questions like would they be alive if Lourdes had stayed with them in Honduras? Would they be happy together without money and food? We will never know; we cannot turn back time. p. 199 “Lourdes tells her son that if she had sent more money, he would have blown it on drugs.” 6 I agree with Lourdes; there is a probability that she could be contributing to his addiction. …show more content…
Some people start an addition because they have extra money or for the lack of it. The true is that she could not afford to send more money. The life in the United States appears to be effortless, but it requires an arduous work. The money comes and goes quickly; for instance, there is challenging to save some cash to send to another country. Lourdes is an example to other mothers, and Enrique has to be proud to be her son.
p. 201 “Almost all of the men on his paint crew, depressed to be away from home, are big drinkers.”
7 That is a ridiculous excuse; that is not a solution. Some people drink for happiness and other for sadness; I do not agree with any of those two justifications. It is okay to drink, but the extreme is an escape to reality. People have to face reality. The problems do not resolve by themselves; we have to do something to make the change.
p. 201 “Enrique is breaking a promise he made to leave his addictions behind once he crossed into the United States.”
8 Enrique is not noticing, but he is doing what he does want to do when he came. He started breaking promises which it is one thing that he hated about his mom. Maybe now he can understand his mother. p. 203 “ 'What an ugly tree, ' Enrique says. ' '” 9 He mocks her; until now, Enrique does not understand that all he enjoyed in childhood in Honduras it was because Lourdes did not enjoy her life. She gave them everything that she could.
