Personal Narrative: A Career In The Medical Field

Improved Essays
If I could use any word to describe my mindset, I would use the word "motivated." I know that I will succeed in the Medical field because whenever I set my mind to something, I go out of my way to complete it. I have always wanted to help people both directly and indirectly. I donate plenty of blood every year, I raise money for the red cross, and I even helped design and submit a project that would allow multiple communities in Haiti to have access to clean drinking water. I really believe that the best way for me to help people is by becoming a doctor and saving lives. No money or tangible substance can compare to the value of a life. I have never worked at a hospital, but I have been a patient too many times to count. When I was diagnosed with appendicitis this past summer, I was frightened. However, the surgeon that I had made me feel that I was going to be okay and helped me recover to my normal state. I want to have that kind of impact on people 's lives. I am motivated to do this because I want to make a significant difference in the world. I already promised myself that if I do become a doctor or a surgeon, through Doctors Without Borders, I will volunteer to go to other nations in need and keep people there healthy. I am not doing this for rewards or for money, I am doing this because it is my way of giving back to the world. One day in the middle of our 6th grade science class, our teacher decided that he wanted us to learn about nature outside. …show more content…
We were studying habitats and the environment, so it was fitting that we study face to face with trees and a river. It 's funny because I walk outside all the time and I never noticed certain things about the trees. He was showing us how each individual leaf had its own veins and how the veins collected water from the tree. It was a fascinating experience because I gained a better appreciation for the simple things not only when it comes to nature, but also life as a whole. This was the moment when I realized that I needed to witness things hands in order to truly understand them. This 30 minute walk around our school was more than enough to sway my field of passion to science. When it comes down to work, I get really serious and determined to finish it all. However, I have a really energetic and fun side. I always try to put a smile on other people 's faces, whether it be by telling a funny joke or making a fool out of myself. I always keep my side of the room clean and organized, but I am not bothered by …show more content…
I feel like I have an obligation to keep my family healthy. When my dad took daily stress medication because of his work, I would force him to come along with me for my morning jogs. He despised it, yet I still made him do it no matter what the weather was. I never let anything break up the relationship that my brother and I have. He has always been there for me when I needed him the most, and I have always had his back when he has been down. We talk on Skype all the time and love to make fun of each other. My parents always yell at us for "fighting" when we are really messing with each

Most little girls dream of being a ballerina when they grow up, I was the little girl who dreamed of medical school. Anyone who was brave enough to ask got my vehement no when asked if I thought that the college, subsequent medical school, and training would be too much school or that I would get bored. I decided very early that to be a doctor was one of the most exciting things that a person could chose to be and my fantastic pediatrician was the initial spark for this love of medicine. The care that I could see him exhibit in his daily operations as well as the ease at which he interacted with patients and parents alike inspired me. His knowledge was fascinating and I longed to have that level of understanding of the human body.…
