In the United States, only six states teach cursive today. Some people say cursive is a waste of time to teach cursive. I disagree, first cursive connects students to the past. Also cursive affects and makes our society better. So, in my opinion I think cursive should be taught in school. First of all, cursive connects students to the past. Most historical writings are written in cursive including The Declaration of Independence. Also students can’t read important letters from history if they can’t read cursive. Finally, students would not be able to read their grandparents or great-grandparents letters if they still write in cursive. Next, cursive affects our lives. In a study, students wrote faster and more words than students who typed on the computer. Cursive also helps the brain integrate visual and tactical information. Finally, the parts of the brain that are active during reading were active when students were writing in cursive.

Some states are trying to bring cursive back into their school learning program, so that kids know how to use cursive. In my opinion, I think that cursive should still be taught in school today so that kids can have cursive to use if they get tired of using regular print in school. First cursive can help by taking notes faster so students will not fall behind and miss any of the notes need to take in college, Next cursive helps the left and right brain cells communicate better, lastly cursive is a skill that everybody will need to know for later in life. Also cursive makes the left and right brain cells work together so each side of your brain works better together. The brain cells working together can help because it can make think harder about stuff because of the cell communication.…

Some examples to show that cursive should still be taught today are, you can write faster, you will need to write a signature, and you are more literate if you can read and write cursive. I think cursive writing should be taught in school. The reason being is because it's people in everyday life who don't even have the chance to learn how to write period. That's how people loose the best thing that ever happen to them in life. Back in the day people didn't even have those rights to do so in life. So people shouldn't even complain on what people do or, don't do in life.…

While some people believe that cursive may be a powerful brain tool, others believe that it is no longer a need. I agree that cursive writing is good for people to learn, for many reasons. Though some say, "you barley use your signature anymore more, things have turned into pins or thumbprints for proof of identity so its not really used anymore.'' You still need to be able to know how to sign your name, and other important paperwork that requires you to do so, such as job applications, doctor or hospital documents, and lots more.…

While it may be useful in signatures and reading old documents, otherwise, it provides no other uses. In 2012, at a conference hosted by Zaner-Bloser, a company that makes cursive textbooks, handwriting teachers were surveyed on what type of writing they used. It turns out that, “Only 37 percent wrote in cursive”(Gladstone 3). If adults think that cursive is important, then they would be writing in it more frequently. Also, it seems as if even politicians, the people who implement the common core, do not seem to care as Pam Roach, a state senator in Washington State, drafted a law that would require the teaching of cursive.…

Cursive writing, such a wonderful art; exercises the mind, improves the speed of writing ten-fold. Not to mention the best part, you dont even have to take your pen of the paper. I understand it a dying practice, but when there is no other easy way of doing things cursive will no longer be an option if it keeps getting put to the side right along with latin. as stated in the article "Cursive Is a Powerful Brain Tool", "Medical scans show that writing in cursive helps with fine motor skill development and stimulates both left and right parts of the brain." which to me is just another type of exercise altogether.…

While cursive hand writing is not a requirement anymore it is still very important in todays society. Cursive writing is not only a good skill to have, it also can help you in many different situations. For example in test taking and other brain stimulating situations. When taking notes for an upcoming test some people may want to take the easy route and just type their notes, however this has proven to be the worst way to prepare for a test. Through experiments it has been proven that an individual who takes notes by hand is more likely to remember and retain the information given then those who were to type their notes.…
