In The Epic of Gilgamesh and Genesis, they both have to build a boat before the floods occur. They both took their families on the boat and animals on the boat, except there is a difference between them. Utnapishtim’s flood only lasted six days and six nights but, in contrast, Noah’s flood lasted forty days and forty nights. They each took birds with them that they used the birds to test where the dry land was located at. Utnapishtim releases three birds, the birds were a dove, raven, and swallow. Utnapishtim got this idea from a dream, where Noah was told directly from God himself that he had to do this. Utnapishtim and Noah sacrificed their lives for different things, Utnapishtim wanted eternal life and God just wanted to start again with a sin free world. He commanded to Noah that he had to take two of each animal and two of each bird, where one had to be male and the other had to be a female. God also told Noah that the creatures would be clean and unclean
