War Of 1812 War Causes

The War of 1812 has been called America's forgotten war. Wedged between the Revolution and the Civil War, its causes, battles and consequences are familiar to few. The American-British war that went on from 1812 to 1815 was the first war that the United States engaged in after gaining independence. Since 1789, America had kept a policy of a neutral stance and consecutive administrations had kept in line with this policy until 1812. Due to a arrangement of many naval, trade and industry and political factors, the James Madison administration found itself squeezed of options and this led to the pronouncement of the war in 1812.
