Senator Felix Grundy was a strong believer that the United States should declare war on Britain. For instance on December 9, 1811 Grundy says: “ What, Mr. Speaker, are we now called on to decide? It is, whether we will resist by force the attempt, made by [Britain], to subject our maritime rights to the arbitrary and capricious rule of her will….Sir, I prefer war to submission. [This] unjust and lawless invasion of personal liberty, calls loudly for the interposition of this Government… ” …show more content…
Grundy did not want the United States to back down from Britain due to the forces they have attempted. Grundy believes that the United States should most definitely go to war because Britain disrespected the United States Maritime rights. The Maritime rights that Britain disrespected was them interfering with America's trade and the illegal impressments on the American ships. Grundy explains that he would much rather a war to take place than to allow Britain to do such lawless acts like invading the ships and interfering with taxes.
