Walgreens and other companies in this modern technology world rely on effective communication to ensure the success of their business. Because of this, communication is an important key factor on determining whether a business will succeed or fail. It is known as the nervous system of an organization because it relays information throughout an organization to keep tasks running smoothly. Walgreens rely on formal and informal communication to complete their tasks, with the aid of their managers and leaders forming proper communication structures within the company and using their company’s culture to their advantage.
Walgreens uses a formal communication in an upwards, downwards and horizontal direction to make sure that messages are given and received directly. They use the downward method to allocate goals, task procedures as well as praise and motivation from workers. This information is utilized by relaying information through the hierarchy channels, which is from top executives down the chain of command to lower level manager through meetings and conferences. They use the upward method of formal communication by learning the issues regarding goals, employee disputes and feedback. Walgreens has created an open culture in their organization that allows communication to flow in multidirectional which aids clear communication in team processes. To improve their communication their hired a new director of diversity network and communications to help with closing any gaps in communication caused by any issues or oversight from the organizations
