Totalitarianism In George Orwell's Animal Farm And The Russian Revolution

The individuals of society come together to work towards a goal that is unachievable individually. This goal is seen to be a collaborative effort from all the individuals. In the Russian Revolution of 1917, the underrepresented lower class revolted against their imperial government. Their effort was rewarded with a government representing the different classes of society, but it quickly turns into a totalitarianism controlled by Stalin. These events are paralleled with the events in Animal Farm. Despite its emphasis on selflessness and collectivism - traits considered essential in a socialist society - Orwell’s satirical allegory Animal Farm reveals the ways which all individuals put their needs ahead of the needs of society. Negligence is the failure to keep proper care of something. Things are neglected because their owners are not properly doing their job. Through the use of symbolism between Animal Farm and the Russian Revolution, Orwell conveys of how an individual’s needs are prioritized after the needs of society. Anna M. Dictators maintain their power through the use of fear and elimination of civil rights. The use of symbolism between Animal Farm and the Russian Revolution, with the use of nonfiction research, shows of how individuals in a society only work for their personal benefit. Elizabeth Hopper wrote for the website healthypsych.com on January 20, 2015. She stated, “In individualistic cultures, relationships are often seen as voluntary, and it’s not uncommon to choose to end relationships that are not beneficial” (Hopper 6). People who are individualistic have the perspective of relationships being replacable. The quote conveys of how individualistic cultures work for their personal benefit. Due to their perspective, people of individualistic see that if a relationship does not work to their advantage, they would terminate it. By terminating their relationships, it shows of how individuals work for themselves. People from collective cultures, on the other hand, keep their relationships in order to benefit society. In the rising action of Animal Farm, there was a purge of the animals who had dissented against Napoleon. The narrator states, “And so the tale of confessions and executions went on, until there was a pile of corpses lying before Napoleon’s feet and the air was heavy with the smell of blood, which had been unknown there since the expulsion of Jones”
