The author uses the parents Lydia and George to show why not to spoil your children. They show that because the kids are being disrespectful to them and they regret their decision on buying the nursery. George even said, “That I’m beginning to be sorry we bought that room for the children.” They found out that spoiling their children with everything they want makes them use to it and use to not having to do anything. So if they tell them to do something or take something away they discover that the kids will freak out and not do what they wanted them to do. It shows that if you spoil your children you will regret it. They will stop respecting you and stop doing things that they need to do you so it will annoy you and if you try to do something they will freak out which will make you regret your decision of spoiling them. Also in the story when the kids lock the parents in the room they try to tell the kids to be reasonable but they don't listen and it was frustrating for the parents in the book to have their kids lock them in the nursery. Then the kids turn the nursery which is like a realistic virtual reality room to Africa and have lions come skare the parents. They regret having that nursery and regret spoiling their kids because that's what kids did when the parents tried to turn off the room and all the electronics in the house.
