President George W. Bush states that “Terrorist attacks can shake the foundations of our biggest buildings, but they cannot touch the foundation of America. These acts shatter steel, but they cannot dent the steel of American resolve.”(9/11) Even though the attack of 9/11 devastated America, we came back stronger and safer. Pearl Harbor was also a horrible attack which affected the military base near Honolulu. Pearl Harbor and 9/11 shared many similarities, including their causes of the attacks, devastation in America, and effects on the world. The attack on Pearl Harbor and the 9/11 attack shared many similarities because of their causes. Americas restrictions on Japan caused the Pearl Harbor bombing. The staff at history.com stated “Japan believed the only way to solve its economic and demographic problems was to gain land in China, so Japan invaded China and started a war in 1937. America responded to this with economic sanctions and trade embargoes. This caused Japan to stand their ground and be more stubborn when it came to negotiations.”(Pearl) Negotiations between the two countries didn't go so well, which was another cause of the attack. Both countries knew a war was going to happen because of the conflicts between them. Causes of the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon include Americas support of Israel, involvement in the Persian Gulf Was, and military presence in the Middle East. According to the National September 11 Memorial & Museum “Al-Qaeda hoped that, by attacking these symbols of American power, they would promote widespread fear throughout the country and severely weaken the United States’ standing in the world community, ultimately supporting their political and religious goals in the Middle East and Muslim World.”(National) Al-Qaeda wanted to spread terror, because they disagreed with how America helped other countries. The attacks on America where both caused because of Americas interference in other countries. Pearl Harbor and 9/11 both left devastation in America.
