The Importance Of Tarrant County College

Improved Essays
When people go to college you expect to have to do things on your own with little to no assistance, and that all the staff members will be a Grinch. Well I like to keep an open mind, and believe everyone, and every place is good. But I truly believe that Tarrant County College is a great school filled with faculty ready to help when they can, and good resources provided for every student when needed. During the Helpful survey, 10 percent of the students agreed that there was little to no assistance here at TCC. As for the other 90 percent of the students, they believe the TCC faculty has been very helpful and kind. Or really did not have an opinion, but I agree with the 90 percent that the TCC faculty has been helpful, caring, and the school provides good resources for its students. Now it is reasonable that some of the students believe that the faculty here at TCC are not much of an assistance, and are a bit on the rude side. Most just had bad luck, ended up with a hard professor, was not prepared for a college class or classes, or they had a long wait for assistance with scheduling. There were a couple of people who said that they had to wait a while before they received any assistance from a faculty member. However, most of these people forget that the campus has at least 46,917 students to deal with. These students do not see the bigger picture of all the help that is provided for student use. Tarrant County College offers so much for students that most do not even realize that they cannot get at other Colleges. When I was waiting to gain assistance from one of the TCC advisor it took about 5 minutes for me to see an advisor. The advisor had helped out a lot, she made sure I understood what she was talking about, and made sure I was not lost with all the information she was giving me. Along with the helpful survey, I interviewed a couple of students who are attending TCC. During the interviews one of the questions I asked was “How long was the wait to access assistance from a TCC faculty member, and were they helpful?” One of the responses was “The wait was 10-15 minutes, but when I was able to ask my questions, and talk to a faculty member they explained in great detail what I needed to do. Making it worth the wait.” (S. Resendiz). Mr. Resendiz was not the only one to give me a response like this. There was also Marc Drennan, who had said “TCC has some very helpful faculty here.” My first visit at the library one of the staff members was quick about assisting me to …show more content…
There were several students who were still in high school in need of summer classes in order to get a head start in college. “I was thankful to be able to fit two classes after my day of high school. It made starting college easy.”(T. Newman). This was one of the replies I received in an interview, for the question “Did TCC provide easy scheduling to work around your priorities?” In addition to that response another student replied that “ TCC not only provided a flexible schedule around my work schedule, but also provided the classes I needed for my major”(Y. Alvarez). Another question from this interview was “Were professors cooperative with your schedule outside of class?” Most said yes, but several believe that it is mainly during the summer classes. But that still goes to show that the professors are understanding, and are willing to make something …show more content…
There are many other things that make TCC great, but just the resources and staff alone make TCC what it is. 90 percent of the students who participated in the Helpful Survey said they would recommend Tarrant County College to others who are looking for a great place to learn, and gain new experiences. Even if it is for one semester, TCC is a great school to attend. TCC’s mission statement is “Tarrant County College provides affordable and open access to quality teaching and learning.” They have definitely achieved that so far, especially according to Yesenia, who says that “TCC is a great community college to start your career” (Y.

Hi Hye Jin Sim, I have the same opinion with you. Learning Resource Center (LRC), which is one of the departments in Cypress College has a lot of benefits for students such as printers, computers, tutors, and more. Students who do not have computers can use computers in LRC whenever you want. In addition, students who study ESL or English can meet tutors in LRC for help. The last two years have been busy, as I have moved twice, resulting in my attendance to three separate high schools. This gives me first hand experience in many different types of schedules. In junior high, I had an A/B block type schedule, we had the same core classes everyday but our electives would alternate each day. Freshman year I had a 4x4 block schedule with 4 90 minute classes a day and classes were only a semester long (8 credits). Sophomore year I attended a school with trimesters, 5 70min classes per day, lasting 2 out of the 3 trimesters.…
