It was April 8, 1933, the main office for Press and Propaganda of the German Student Union proclaimed a nationwide "Action against the Un-German Spirit". This was widely known as the German Book Burning, performed by the Nazis to “cleanse literary purge by fire”. These books were burned because they had religious and political thoughts that didn’t match what Germany wanted their citizens to perceive. At first glance, this would look like a tyrannical action forced upon citizens, and it is, most people would not be for this manipulative control because: it rids people of literary understanding, it is (as said before) manipulative, and most importantly, it abrogates the rights of a person. This is a move made by desperate people who want their country to look like it has never done something evil or immoral. America has been the home of slave trading for over two hundred years, yet high schools are attempting to make it look like it never happened by banning books that involve racist actions of any kind. The sad part is that it’s actually working, children are actually oblivious to the past and they think that certain words should be covered up because they don’t fully represent America. Go up to a middle schooler and say that black slaves were often referred to as Niggers.
