The Perfect Choice Adoption: The Fight For Abortion

Over the past decades, women in America have been fighting for equal rights. According to John Markoff, “Rivals for elective office assiduously courted New Jersey’s women voters until the legislature wrote a new, explicitly males-only rule into its 1807 constitution.” (88) It was not until 1973 that women gained the right to abort a fetus that they were bearing within their own body. Although women have gained many rights, they still today are fighting to keep their right to abort a fetus. Many individuals notice that there are underlying issues with suppressing abortion, but others oppose the idea of an abortion. First and foremost, abortion allows a woman the right to her own body. Some say that abortion should not be used as a form of contraception, but birth control fails on a daily basis. According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, about 6% of all birth controls fail each year. Women on birth control tend to disregard the chance of getting pregnant since the percentage is so low, and the only protection they choose to utilize is a form of birth control. Women should remain to have the option to abort an undesired fetus, because the fetus would later become a depressed child sitting in foster care waiting for the perfect family. In contrast, a portion of individuals are against abortion. As earlier stated, some are against using birth control as a contraception, for instance, individuals with religious views. Thus leaves a woman of a specified religion to practice safe sex, whether it is to use a condom or abstinence. People of the Catholic religion are against the use of birth control. “Catholicism was perceived as opposed to birth control and therefore as a particular threat,” therefore people of this religion are expected to practice safe sex (Ryder). However, the followers of the religions may be keeping their own body safe. According to a survey performed on 1303 women that utilize a form of birth control, the “IUD were associated with heavier, prolonged, and more painful menstruation (in up to 65% of cases)” (Oddens). An IUD (Intrauterine Device) is only one of the many forms of birth controls that have caused many health issues within women. One may believe that it is safer to know what exactly is being inserted within their body. Along with contraception issues, there are other factors to reason with when it comes to an abortion. Secondly, some women are youthful and promiscuous. Each individual makes simple mistakes, young females tend to do the same, exceptionally under pressure. Young females in high school and college are often pressured into having sex and are gullible to fall for any trick played on her by a man seeking sex. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDCP) also performed a study in 2011 involving the abortion rate. The study resulted with the findings that “women between the ages of 15 and 44 years of living were more likely to obtain an abortion” (Pazol et al). For example, many believe it would be fine if abortion was legal only for women who are carrying a child conceived from rape. The others who plan to abort a fetus are given the alternative to have the child and put it up for adoption. There are organizations like the Perfect Choice Adoption who offer help to a woman if she chooses adoption over abortion. The help includes free housing during the adoption, help paying bills, the choice on what type of adoption it may be (open, closed, or mixed), and the choosing of the adopting family (Perfect Choice Adoption). Another type of alternative is a nonsurgical abortion, this is done by a drug given to the woman to stop the hormones followed by another drug taken by mouth or inserted vaginally that causes the uterus to contract and expel both the fetus and placenta (Minnesota). However, many believe regardless of the type of abortion, one is still putting an end to a beating heart. The final alternative to abortion as a whole, is to put the child in temporary foster care.
