I agree with Michael that the “Poor Kids” documentary was tough to watch. Seeing the different types of impoverished living situations that people in the documentary were in was both humbling and frustrating. It was humbling in the sense that it gave me a far greater appreciation for the basic amenities and gifts that I was afforded during my childhood. I never even came remotely close to having my family struggle to survive, and for that I’m forever grateful. The documentary is especially frustrating because its subjects are right here in the United States.…

The film Babies, that we watched in class, was a very interesting and a great example of how cultures differ in communication. It was amusing to watch the cultures that majorly differed from my own. The most surprising part of this film was the way parents raised children in Mongolian culture and Namibian culture. When going in to the film, I expected exactly what the movie was about, which was exploring very interesting cultures and the different ways of raising children within them.…

This movie is very relatable to viewers because the experiences of both Mason and his sister Stephanie are experiences every child faces from childhood to adolescence. Over the course of the movie you are able to analyze normative development in several different aspects of Mason’s life, as well as some non-normative events. More importantly, viewers are able to take notice on the effects of family and home relationships on development. This past summer movie season sweltered, simmered and smoldered its way into the hearts of many in 2017. While previous summers presented the worst Hollywood had to offer, this year proved different. Beginning with the empowering “Wonder Women,” to the stunning “Dunkirk” and the inspiriting joy ride that was “Baby Driver,” the film industry pleasantly surprised with dense blockbusters and three dimensional characters audiences will not soon forget. Nevertheless, a few indie gems — great films nonetheless, became buried beneath the aforementioned blockbusters. With all this to say check out these five, severely underrated films out, because this past summer was way more than its instantaneous classics.…

Steel Magnolias is my favorite movie. This movie reflects the daily lives of six southern women with different personalities and careers. Being a southern girl I could see myself in one of the characters. M'Lynn, Truvy, Annelle, Claree, Shelby and my favorite Ouiser all had a unique personality but are alike in so many ways which is the love they have for their families, one another, and the support for each other during family crisis. They laughed together, cried together and even made jokes about one another but as friends they always made the best out of all obstacles that crossed them rather it was a happy occasion or tragic.…
