September 11, 2001, was the most terrifying day of my life. Nineteen radicals linked with the Islamic terrorist alliance al-Qaeda skyjacked four aircrafts and made suicide attacks against national landmarks in the United States. One plane smashed into the Pentagon not too far from Washington, D.C., and the second aircraft collided in an arena in the middle of Pennsylvania. The last two aircrafts soared into the towers of the World Trade Center located in New York City, this terrorist act caused both towers to fall within two hours. This day is also call 9/11, the outbreaks of attacks and destruction caused extensive damage, destruction and death. This incident made the United States of America revamp its security measures when combating radicalism. The terrorist killed more than 350 firefighters and police officers. They also murder over 2750 individuals in Washington D.C. and New York City. On September 11, 2001, I was employed as a correctional in the State of Texas. At approximately 0850 hours, I went to the officers dining area and noticed several officers looking at the television. They began to scream and yell as Flight 175 crashes into the South Tower. I was horrified at what I was seeing, a scorching skyscraper, which I knew as the World Trade Center having been there before when I was stationed in Fort, Lee Virginia. The second airplane hit the other World Trade Center building and the News Station showed the impact of the aircrafts impacting the building again and again. It was clear to me that this was no coincidence and it instantly hit me that the human race had totally transformed on the spot and that we were under some sort of terrorist attack. Fire and smoke could be seen at the highest point of the structure. The fire department and the police department was descending on this area, but for some it was too late. A news reported stated that people were jumping out of the World Trade Center windows and falling to their death. I saw emergency personnel entering the building. The fireman and policeman were clearing as many people from the two building as possible. Then, at around 0940 hours the news station states that the Pentagon is under attack. I can’t control my emotions. Therefore, I walked to the restroom, locked the door and began to pray for those that have lost their life and the brave policeman and firefighters of New York City. I cried for at least twenty minutes because I thought about the individuals on the airplanes as well. Once I got myself together, I unlocked the door and walked inside the break room that’s when one of my fellow officers stated the Federal Administrative Association stated that all residential flights are postponed until noon on September 12, 2001. I could hear the shock in my co-workers voice. Then we both turned back to watch the news and we saw the South Tower falling. I was again in shock and wondering who or where will the terrorist strike next.
