The film industry has opened up new gates for mental illness in the past few years. Over time, society has grown as a whole with their acquired knowledge of mental illness. Through cinema, an audience can receive a better understanding of the attributes tied to the illness displayed. Silver Linings Playbook directed by David O. Russel, used a character with bi polar disorder, Pat Solatano, to show his life of living with this illness. He faced many difficulties and the audience watched Pat rebuild his life. The men that arrived there where not Soviets, they were from the psychiatric facility. Alicia becomes worried so she proceeds to the mail box where Nash has been mailing his reports only to find it is a broken mail box with all of his reports still remaining. Alicia confronts Nash about her findings where he then begins to look for the chip Parcher placed in his are, it is not there and he then believes that he has been hallucinating. John then learns Charles and Marcee are also illusions of his mind. He agrees to a series of painful insulin shots and won’t be released if he agreed to take antipsychotic medicine. But because of the side effects he experienced affected his relationship with his wife and his intellectual ability, Nash stopped taking the medicines and begins to relapse with his hallucinations. Alicia becomes aware of that John is bathing their infant son and he wanders off and she comes to find her baby in a bathtub full of water and John says Charles is watching him. Nash met a few good friends at Princeton, not one spoke of Charles or even talked about him and until the viewer became aware of Nash’s mental illness the connection was never made, they never knew of him. In relation when Nash met Marcee for the first time, she began to run around the pigeons, not one of the birds flew away as she was running through them. If the viewer is unaware of Marcee being a delusion they would never pick up on that scene. In relation when John was call to the Pentagon why was Parcher there? If this was a truth confidential meeting there would not be a “big brother” watching over. Also Parcher’s attire does not match with others are wearing at the Pentagon but because of his convincing personality John never question authority. The way this movie was scripted deceived the viewer. Seems leading up to the moment Johns reports are found the viewer is living in his world. Charles Marce and Parcher are seenin the viewer’s eyes just as John sees them. Due to this scrip,t making connection with this film is done
