One concept of the study discussed is staffing. The study was researching the relationship between the nursing staff and the residents’ quality of life. Over the course of the semester, Long Term Care Administration has covered the topic of staffing and the importance of this task for managers. The course material put such a priority on staffing that the author of the textbook said, “The nursing home depends directly on adequate staffing” (Allen, 2011, p.26). After reading the about the study, the student realizes more in depth how crucial it is for health care organizations, especially nursing homes, to have a proper staff. The transition of a person having to leave behind certain aspects of their life, in order to gain the supervision of care in a nursing home is traumatic and challenging. The basic qualities in life, such as having others to communicate with and being able to care for yourself can sometimes be taken for granted, until day you are no longer able to do so. The author wrote, “elders with longer lives are more concerned about their quality of life (QOL), rather than the survival itself” (Shin, 2013, p.133). The realization, given the chance, that everyone is going to age and become vulnerable to some extent is frightening. Individuals are living longer and the health care industry is figuring out the best options for people to age with dignity and quality. Material Used in the Study The author used various types of material to conduct the study. The design of the study was observational. The author gathered his information from two major sources, online survey certification and reporting (OSCAR) and proposed MDS 3.0 data.
