Granted, technology has advanced so much that there are communication devices that enable people to communicate in real time as they see each other. However, this is only practical occasionally as the rigid scheduling of college life in terms of classes, friends, college culture, and social clubs are likely to take their toll on the relationship (Oswald & Clark). This means that when one partner is free, then the other is likely to be busy doing one thing or the other. The two love birds may be willing to keep in touch by maintaining frequent contact, but this will eventually become impossible due to the different scheduling of activities at their respective college campuses. This means that the relationship requires that, irrespective of being in different colleges, that they maintain the same tastes and preferences for various things in life. However, in most of the high school relationships, it happens that the taste for similar things gradually evaporates with time as a result of the distance and not seeing each other on a regular basis. This means that each person in the relationship develops new hobbies and a liking for new things that are distinct to what their partner liked in the relationship.
