Animal experimentation used for medical reasons has been known to be an extreme accomplishment. It assisted in solving the medical concerns of Parkinson 's and Alzheimer 's with the operation of animals such as monkeys and others that have a similar biology to humans ( Clemmitt 10 ). Considering how many lives are affected by these kinds of similar illnesses, it is impressive that those people would no longer suffer because of the remedy found with the use of animal testing. That is an enormous accomplishment in the medical field that has influenced many people. Other accomplishments that made an impression is “the development and treatment of diseases such as anthrax, poliomyelitis, influenza, asthma and tuberculosis” (Hubrecht 2). Similarly, it helps the people that are in need of those medical treatments. Without the use of animals they wouldn’t have that opportunity of another chance at life. On the other hand, animal research may not be what it …show more content…
As Robert Hubrecht, a scientist from Universities Federation for Animal Welfare confirms, “it has been estimated that fewer than 60 million animals are [annually] used worldwide in research” (5). Comparing that to the population of humans in some states of the United States of America, that number is tremendous. It’s very complex to wrap my head around the fact that 60 million animals are being experimented on in labs. Meanwhile their treatment in those labs are unknown and the scientific process involving those animals has always been debatable ( Clemmitt 10 ). In addition, the scientist Hubrecht also imposes that in at least 3 million animal experiments, the animals are usually in the state of misery because of a damaging condition that the researchers have inflicted on them for the sake of science (4). Some conditions provided by Hubrecht are animals being uncomfortable, scared, starving, sick, and in misery” (19). The suffering of the animals has been a concerning conflict to the public for many
