Bravery is a courageous behavior or character, it’s the admirable quality of being able to confront frightening things. The theme of bravery repeatedly appears throughout the book “The Hate U Give”. The choice of Starr’s to talk to the cops after the murder was extremely brave. Her bravery is really noticeable, especially by her attorney, Ms Ofra. Even though everybody tells her how brave they think she is, she doesn’t think about herself that way, but still speaks up for justice. The theme of bravery in the book “The Hate U Give” is in my opinion shown the most on pages 29 through 48.For example, when Starr wasn’t even sure about who she should trust and talk to, she said “I’ll do it.” (Thomas, 29). The cops were the community that the person …show more content…
This happened when she was already talking to the cops that Monday. Throughout the conversation, she got uncomfortable, because of the questions, so her mom tried to stop the meeting. Even though her mom didn’t really want her to, Starr was still brave and willing to answer the cops questions so that Khalil could get justice. In conclusion, we can see that Starr can be really brave when it comes to her family. The theme of bravery shows up in the book "The Hate You Give". For example, Ms. Ofra, the woman that represented "Just Us for Justice" recognized it in Starr more than once, "I know she gave a statement to the police, and I want to commend her on her bravery.” (Thomas, 62) or “It was very brave of you to talk to the police.”(Thomas, 97). This gives us a look not only at bravery as a thing in the whole book, but as one of the main characteristics of the main character. Giving statements to the police is pretty hard and scary, so being able to do it so fast reveals how brave she really is. Another thing that we see in the book is that Starr doesn't think about herself that …show more content…
“And I want everyone to know that Khalil matters too.” (Thomas, 98). When people find out that somebody was friends with a victim, their attitude towards them changes a lot, so it is hard to speak up. Starr is not scared though, she still talks about it loud and proud because she;s brave like that. Throughout reading the text, it's pretty obvious that Starr is really brave and new situations reveal it more and more. Throughout the book "The Hate U Give" we can see a lot of bravery. Especially because a lot of the main character, Starr. We can see that a lot of people comment on her bravery, for example: “Thank you so much for having the bravery to do this.”(Thomas, 125). As we can see, all the people around her notice it. And it's not the only time either. But Starr herself doesn't really notice it. She had said this about herself: “If bravery is a medical condition, everybody’s misdiagnosed me.” (Thomas, 125). So she genuinely doesn't think she's brave. But her mom decided to clear something out for her and said “Brave doesn’t mean you’re not scared, Starr, it means you go on even though you’re scared. And you’re doing that.” (Thomas,
