This happened when she was already talking to the cops that Monday. Throughout the conversation, she got uncomfortable, because of the questions, so her mom tried to stop the meeting. Even though her mom didn’t really want her to, Starr was still brave and willing to answer the cops questions so that Khalil could get justice. In conclusion, we can see that Starr can be really brave when it comes to her family. The theme of bravery shows up in the book "The Hate You Give". For example, Ms. Ofra, the woman that represented "Just Us for Justice" recognized it in Starr more than once, "I know she gave a statement to the police, and I want to commend her on her bravery.” (Thomas, 62) or “It was very brave of you to talk to the police.”(Thomas, 97).
