The Forgotten Pasted: Museum Analysis

Improved Essays
The Forgotten Pasted In my museum, I want to have a historical theme to it that shows individuals back then, it was socially acceptable to either straight, gay, lesbian, bisexual, intersexed, or whatever. I would like to have a theme that shows the rise and fall, and now the acceptation of the normal gay lifestyles. First, before I get to the artists, I want my visitors to be artists; I want them to take pictures of themselves and place them on the huge walls at the beginning of the of the museum opening hallway. Then before entering to see the art, I want a sign saying, “We are created in God’s image, and we are only human.” I feel this should be a driving point, we are still humans. Either we have sex with a male or a female, we still human. This is a key part to remember, that we should not judge a person on anything, but how they treat you and others. For my first theme I want to show Greek lifestyle, because this is a funny part, universities have fraternities and sororities, and they follow Greek pastimes secrecy, ownership and occupancy of a residential property at which the undergraduate members of the fraternity or sorority live, use of a set of complex identification symbols including Greek letters, armorial achievements, ciphers, badges, grips, handsigns, passwords, flowers, and colors, and most of all single-sex membership! I think, my first artists and picture is the The Discovery of Achilles among the Daughters of Lycomedes 1664 by Jan de Bray, everyone talks about the love story of Achilles, and want to be like him, but yet, Achilles was bisexual. Achilles dressed up as a girl and hide from people by his mother. Jan de Bray was a Dutch Golden Age painter from 1627 1697. This is a great piece I fell in love with. Also, with this theme, I love to have a 300 theme, because everyone love the story of Leonidas I and his “300 bodyguards” but yet, as we learned most of them had sex with each other and younger children at the time. I also would love to have some forms of Greek statues from Myron of Eleutherae, like his one with a Greek throwing a disc. Myron of Eleutherae was a sculptor from the mid-5th century BC in Greece. Humans, as well as sports stars, talk about getting the prefect body, they look at these Greek statues! Honestly, is this gay now or was it gay back then? Myron of Eleutherae had to shape a penises for his amazing statutes, yet today, we would call …show more content…
The games is can you tell what artists is gay. I would love to have art from Peter Hujar, because he is from New Jersey, and my location would be here in Jersey. I like his art, because he does not throw out that he is gay, so people would not know. Also, I want Francis Bacon, a baby in a carriage theme in the center of the room and make it look like a beach. Also, Thomas Lanigan-Schmidt too, because he from Jersey, and his art pieces as well, also, you can’t tell if his art is gay! This would be a fun game, because it will help see, that just like meeting a person that is gay or straight, should not be a problem. Also, ave some art from Kelci Crawford, and up and coming gay artist. I love his urban themes, and it would love great making the beach theme

The Art Museum as Ritual is an article written by Carol Duncan that questions the role and function of public museums. In this article, Duncan shows his dissatisfaction with the way museums use objects of art to come up with particular political meanings aimed at achieving a certain purpose. Before writing this paper I knew what a discourse community was on the exterior but I never really looked into the definition of a discourse community. After reading the articles and having in class discussions about discourse communities I have a better understanding of what they are and how they impact our daily lives. A discourse community is a group of people who share a set of discourse, understood as basic values and assumptions, and ways of communicating about those goals. For discourse community topic I was considering writing about greek life because I for one am a member of a fraternity and would want to represent the aspect of communal gathering. People that are Greek all have things in common; whether it be just that we are part of a sister/brotherhood or deeper things…

The theme that I selected was transition. It is a big transition and challenge when you go from a high school dropout, to going back to college several years later. Coming from the work force, to education, you forget a lot. Not only memory of what you learned years ago, but also how to study more conservatively, using useful study tips you once knew. Now that I look at it, I may have been too optimistic about coming back to college.…

How wild of a journey have we taken on the issue of gay rights not only politically but also socially? The beauty of acceptance, once a dream now a reality. Richard Blanco’s “Queer Theory: According to My Grandmother gives us a glimpse into what it was for him growing up being pressurized to be a certain way that was considered “masculine”. Although the poem is called Queer theory and Blanco is gay this focuses more on gender norms rather than actual sexuality.…

In the game women are created for the pure pleasure of the audience playing the game, which is mostly men. Unlike the male counterparts who for the most part have bodies that are realistic, the women in the game have bodies that have been over exaggerated for the audience’s pleasure. Whether a woman is jogging down the road or sun bathing at the beach you will always find picture perfect bodies through the very revealing clothing. This conflicts with the representation of the common women in today’s society. This misrepresentation of women not only speaks to how women are represented in the game in terms of body image but it also deals with sexuality.…

For my first essay I will be writing about the Greek cookout I went to on Monday September 5th, 2016. It was a very hot day, with no clouds in the sky, so all you felt were the sun beams hitting your skin. This was an informal event for the Greeks and students of George Mason University to get to know each other and just have a fun time; with music and food that got cooked on the grill. I went to this event with the intentions of finding which sorority I felt the most connection/ comfortable with. I went with two of my friends who are thinking about joining a sorority.…

Sara, Thank you for sharing your paper. I enjoyed reading your paper, and I would like to suggest you that your intro needs to be more effective, such as how women were defined at the levels of public and private in Athens. Your thesis statement has a general idea. It might be more specific about the women’s life in Athens, and you could write the thesis about proving how and what women in Athens contributed to the Greek society.…

Karl is facing major challenges between his personal ethics and the lack of an ethical culture in the Bounce Corporation (Ferrell, Fraedrich, & Ferrell, 2013). Marketing to compulsive personalities, increasingly violent scenes to interact with, and using sex as a reward, are the three primary ethical issues being faced in the Breakaway project. Not only does Karl need to stand his ground with moving forward with this project in the U.S., but also as it relates to other markets. Through Karl’s research, he has found that most players are males between the ages of eighteen and forty-four, and that the expenditures that they make within the game increase exponentially as the violence increases, and more life-like options are introduced, such…

The LGBT culture has become a common culture throughout the United States. With such expression of differences this culture is speaking out in a much more modern style than the past. It is clearer throughout history and throughout the world, that people are having sex with other people of the same gender (Burleson, 2014). Through art, anthropology and documented history has opened closed doors to same sex sexual practices. Although exposed, it’s still quite challenging to understand the full scope of moral values and universal moral principles of this unique culture.…

How much architecture should be included in a museum? That is a question that not many visitors ask about a museum, however as an architect or designer it is a fundamental question to ask one’s self when it comes to describing a museum. It can become a debate, deciding whether the museum should or should not be a simple massing where art is displayed. If the answer is it should, then why not just design a white box where all the attention goes into the art on the inside? When it comes to museums, we think of a place where we can look back in time and experience the art that was once created by an amazing artist.…
