During the years of our childhood we rely on experiences to learn and develop life skills that will help us later in our adulthood. These experiences can also play an important role in determining the physical and emotional health in our adulthood. According to the article “The Five Things Most Likely to ruin Your Child’s Life,” Dr. Michael Ungar explains the five adverse children experiences also known as ACE and that they are most likely to impact your child’s life. The five adverse childhood experiences include physical abuse, sexual abuse, metal illness, conflict between parents, and a poor parent-child relationship. Dr. Ungar writes, “rich or poor, these adverse childhood experience can throw a child off balance.” It means than any child …show more content…
Physical abuse can be defined as any act causing injury or trauma to another person by physical contact. Adults can be victim, but in most cases, children are the victims of physical abuse. I feel that children who are abused from their parents are affected in their later life according to “The Five Things Most likely to Ruin Your Child’s Life,” Dr. Ungar explains that Childhood abuse is actually much more likely to affect a child. Dr. Ungar states, “it tumbles a child into a whole host of other risks and aggregate. The child is poorly socialized, poorly monitored, her emotional need less well met, and her world full of fear” In “Handbook for an Unpredictable Life,” Rosie explains how her mom suffered from schizophrenia and there were times were she would get physically abused by her mom when she was angry. Rosie writes, “Lydia was home and knew what had happened, it was okay for me to come in, and she had my back. Really? Cool! When I walked inside, I was greeted by a crack across my face so hard that I fell to the floor. “How dare you! you think he would do that that to you? You think he would pick you, when you’re the ugliest? He can pic any of your sisters who are way prettier than you! Huh? Fucking liar! I was pissed, shocked, and hurt!” Rosie came home after being molested by her half-brother, her mother didn’t believe her and slapped her in the face.
