Six months into rollout, the white chef coats had become a dingy grey and the client had nearly 2500 units of white chef coats in stock totaling nearly $90,000 worth of inventory. Focusing on the technical problem and taking a logical approach to the issue, I made the suggestion corporate utilize the white chef coats for the employees who were offering samples at the shops and use for catering events. Through this logical approach I was able to reduce the inventory of branded apparel, while minimizing loss of revenue to my company as well as come up with a reasonable accommodation for my client. Contrary to the analytical style where being in control is important, behavioral decision-making style enjoys working in teams and encouraging participation. I enjoy working on my own and taking projects on. I will take the lead in project management and delegate responsibilities to a team, ensuring all tasks are completed on time and efficiently all the while retaining control. As a manager you need to be flexible to lead effectively, be able to communicate too many different personalities and have the ability to motivate your employees. While the approach of emailing an excel file with inventory data may appeal to an analytical style, a conceptual style may prefer to attend a meeting where the same information is presented with a power point presentation. Being proficient in a range of techniques on how to inspire and motivate your employees will provide any manager with a great range of flexibility. My company requires all employees to take a personality test and each department has team retreats where each member reviews and analyzes their outcomes with each other. Our name plates not only contain our name and title, but also contain our personality type. After knowing my co-workers personality types and reading over the decision-making styles, I can closely assign a decision making style to each person. Through our team retreat and reviewing the decision-making styles I can be flexible on my approach to others.
