Communication is the foundation for sharing information between people to ensure that everything is understood and can be acted upon. Whether you are talking to family and friends, work colleagues or complete strangers, communication plays a key role in every day society. It’s a tool for our survival. However, communication is not just words, it can also comprise of voice, listening and body language which it is said we use to communicate more than words. (Importance of Communication, 2017). This can include; building a stronger team, can help find solutions, builds trust and respect, improve the safety of the working environment. These styles are effective in providing all the necessary information to its members. There is a chain of command which is used to pass through information in an easy and effective way. Throughout this chain there are different ranks with more leadership knowledge and skills to help provide effective and helpful information. Out in the field the Defence force utilise hand signals to communicate to each other. Hand signals are an important communication style to use when moving tactically, as a section, team or any group because they are the best method of control in the field environment. These signals can be used to create a sign language by combining signals together.
