Clive Thompson’s article, Smarter than You Think: How Technology Is Changing Our Minds for the Better, addresses this issue by stating that technology has a positive effect on society. Jenna Wortham’s article, I Had a Nice Time with You Tonight. On the App., presents a similar argument, but takes a different approach, by making her argument more grounded in everyday life. Thompson’s analysis of how technology positively affects humanity can help shed light on Wortham’s observations about present day technology’s positive effects on communication.…

There are millions of people in this world and yet nobody knows exactly what will be happening in the next couple of decades. Eric Schmidt and Jared Cohen explain in their article “Our Future Selves” what advancements the world of technology will have in the future. They talk about how the population will be connected through technology, and how they will benefit from each and every invention or advancement. I believe that these two men have a point as to why everyone will be connected. A reason being is because as the years go by more and more people have begun to purchase technology for entertainment or simply because they need it for medical reasons.…

We have discovered that technology has many negative consequences that attempt to ruin our society. Some of the negative consequences of being too dependent on technology are that it has taught us to seek convenience rather than using our minds and doing something the way it is meant to be done. We have also allowed technology to influence our minds too much. Technology has been able to influence our minds too much, this is shown in both Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury and then article “Is Google making us stupid?” by Nicholas Carr.…

Before the technological boom and widespread use of computing devices that brought the widespread access to the Internet, child predators generally relied on searching and finding their victims in locations where children typically gathered in public places, such as parks, playgrounds, and shopping malls (OVC, 2001). As the availability of the Internet increased, so did the viable options for predators to target children. These online services have become the preferred method for child predators to use because of the easy access they provide to their target population and the relative safety and anonymity offenders believe they have by committing their crimes behind a monitor and out of public view (Orthman & Hess, 2013). This virtual world, known as cyberspace, has become the new park, playground, and shopping mall for child predators. The list of online applications that predators use to gain access to their victims with is extensive.…

I wanted to take it a step farther and see what it’s like being a high school student and how much technology they use in a day, and what they use it for. Technology is always growing into something bigger and better.…

A specific problem that faces that criminal justice system is child exploitation in the age of technology. Child exploitation is a crime that has existed for millennia, but since technology has developed, the crime has grown exponentially. Traditionally a predator would have to target a family member or someone in the community as their pool of targets was relatively limited. However, the advancement of technology has made it easier for predators to not only collect and share paraphernalia, but it has also created a new pool of potential victims. To begin with, the definition of child pornography must be understood so the extent of how technology can contribute to its production can be understood.…
