Bringing Help, Bringing hope by American Red Cross will be able to help those devastated by Hurricane Katrina. Some of the unprecedented generosity of the American Red Cross will help Ta’esha’s family including alleviation of stress and most importantly is to improve their health conditions.
To begin with, the Physical and Mental Health Services offered by the Red Cross. “Red Cross provided both physical and mental health services to hurricane survivors. Trained mental health professionals were available at Red Cross shelters and service centers to help survivors cope with stress, loss and trauma. Red Cross health care professionals delivered emergency first aid and attended to other health-related needs such as assistance with obtaining prescription medications to replace those lost in the storm.” This program will clearly help the …show more content…
When you are stressed, your body responds as though you are in danger. It makes hormones that speed up your heart, make you breathe faster, and give you a burst of energy. This is called the fight-or-flight stress response. This is what’s happening in the environment of Ta’esha’s family. Her mother, Ronita, as much as she believed that her daughter would always love her best, wanted to care for her but she does not know how which she clearly displayed as scared. Additionally, the situations with Ronita’s brother with mental health problems, grandmother’s unmanageable health problems and housing problems commingle into one which added more stress and promoted unhealthy ambiance to the whole family. Hence, the above programs available to the victims of Hurricane Katrina would be beneficial for the family and hopefully, alleviate or eliminated
