Pokémon and Super Mario Brothers are under the ownership of Nintendo, a Japanese based gaming company. Nintendo is about family fun, and Super Mario and Pokémon embody that message. Although both games are kid friendly, adults tend to enjoy them too. With the games audience being so versatile both have become top three bestselling gaming franchises. Because of the great success achieved by these franchises, many side games were created to add new fun that were different that their original games. Games like Mario Party and Pokémon Snap have dug deep into people’s hearts even though they were very different concepts from the original. Another thing that these games have in common is they have their original and side games both on console and handheld devices. For example, both Pokémon Sun and New Super Mario Brothers can be played on the new 3Ds, but spin-offs like Super Smash Brothers can be played on the Wii U. The original Super Mario Brothers game was released in 1985 on the Nintendo Entertainment System as a platformer. The protagonist is Mario, a plumber caught in the troubles of the Mushroom Kingdom. In the game, the player must jump through multiple levels and defeat bosses to achieve the final goal of saving the Princess. Throughout the many Super Mario games, many other characters have been introduced such as Yoshi, Luigi, Toad, and Princess Toadstool, also known as Princess Peach. These characters act as other players or helpers who aid the player throughout the journey. With these protagonists come the antagonists. The most famous antagonist King Koopa, also known as Bowser continually captures Princess Peach for his own. In a role playing game the player controls a fictional character through a magical world completing an adventure. The original Pokémon Games, Red and Green were released in 1996 in Japan. It was founded by the company Gamefreak and later joined Nintendo. In the game, the character roams throughout the world catching new Pokémon, fictional creatures that inhabit an imaginary world.
