Food... It enters the mind at almost every part of the day. Perhaps because it's in our nature for human survival. But, do humans ever take the time to observe/acknowledge exactly how nourishing the body will keep them living. Or on the microscopic perspective on, how exactly food molecules break down. Let's go in a bit deeper and look into two main components that food molecules break into which are, sucrose and glucose. Two caloric sweeteners found in synthetic foods that millions of Americans consume daily affecting the health and dieting lifestyles. Sucrose is a disaccharide, made up of two molecules of simple sugars which are bonded to one another. The chemical compound of sucrose is table sugar. Table sugar is …show more content…
The process Intervase goes through to split sucrose into glucose is that Invertase, hydrolysis the sucrose, meaning that the water molecules are split into hydrogen cations. Hydrolysis is the chemical reaction involving the glycosidic bond, that is holding the disaccharide together. The breaking of the glycosidic bond plays a major role of the digestion of complex sugars into glucose. Invertase also helps prevent human diseases because it occurs in the immune system. (Dale,2008) An example of how food molecules break down would be if a person ate pancakes. Usually when people eat pancakes they add maple syrup. Once consumed, the maple syrup will be digested and will be going through a long journey before it provides energy for the body. The maple syrup start to break down and identified as sucrose. Sucrose will then break the maple syrup into smaller molecules, to get the glucose and fructose units(Newton, 2009) . Intervase will then break the two molecules by the bond (Hydrolyze), while its being metabolized. The result would be glucose, which will be absorbed into the blood stream.
