Our digestive system mechanically breaks down the food into small pieces, which is then chemically digested through the action of enzymes. Our body breaks down food into gluten and sugars along with many other things to be used as energy. Primary components in the food we eat are carbohydrates, lipids and proteins. Carbohydrates are biological molecules made up of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen. They are used to provide energy for working muscles, and preventing protein from being used as energy. Lipids are natural occurring organic compounds that include fats, oils, waxes, cholesterol, and have some of the same elements as carbohydrates.
