Strengths And Weaknesses Of Writing Essay

In English 101, I have my strengths and weaknesses in writing essays. I’ve learned to write a well developed college essays,by using the ideas and words of others, writing an essay in a timed-constraint,and narration.Although I have mastered brainstorming and outlining, I still need to improve on grammar,and developing ideas.

I learned that brainstorming and outlining are crucial to writing a well developed college level essay.Brainstorming and outlining in part of the pre-writing process which is the preparation to writing the drafts. From the start of the pre-writing process , I would write down my ideas about the given topic, and then I would proceed to forming my outline. My professor always noted that my grammar is unsatisfactory. I don 't use the right tenses , my sentence structure,and punctuation are wrong. This caused my essay grade to be low. I believe it is the lack of proofreading and just skimming through it. As a college student, these concepts should be really easy for me to comprehend but it’s not. Now, when I am writing an essay, I try to proof-read carefully more than once. To improve, I ask my peers to read my essays to me , and if they’re confused about a sentence, then I know what needs to be fixed.I also go to the writing center to so they can clarify and help me on my grammar.Being multilingual plays a role in my grammar difficulty, because how I write in french or creole is not the same in english. I really want to overcome this weakness because it can lead to bad grades on future essays.In all of my essays grammar has been the key factor to unabling me to get a decent grade on my papers.I’ve gone to the writing center for all of my essays throughout the semester, but it seem as if grammar is still an issue for …show more content…
Not only is it an issue when writing but it affects me verbally. I can’t express myself to my audience. Not being able to develop my ideas causes my readers to be confused. It’s like a movie with a terrible ending; the audience want more.I get writer 's block frequently when writing essays, so when I can’t think of ways to explain my idea, I move on to another topic.When developing ideas, one’s explanation should be clear and valid so the reader can understand the main idea. But because I have a hard-time developing my ideas, the readers are left confused. The lack of explanation causes my essays to be vague.To improve now and in the future, I will go to my professor or the writing-center to give me advice on how to develop ideas, read varitations of essays and study how the writers develops their ideas,and spend time annotating.
